august 30th-
said bye to my parents and doggy. :)/:(
sunday august 31-got to paris and met up with my brother alex. hi alex. european sibs unite. (yes super awkward picture. we're super awkward siblings)
i then got on the train to nantes! i got to nantes only to not know where to go at all. i had two extremely full bags, a huge backpack and a purse filled to the top. i found the exit and then was lost. where was i supposed to meet the family? we never clarified that. am i supposed to go somewhere? all these thoughts ran through my head so i was a panicked soul. i was standing trying to figure out what to do when a lady came up and said "corinne?" yes! claire! (the mom i'm working for) hallelujiah to the heavens. she said she was going to have them call for me on the intercom but if they said my name in french i wouldn't understand. she's correct. so the boys took my suitcases and we were off! I got to the house and met Bertrand, the father, and i took a shower, ate crepes, and they said i wasn't allowed to sleep because it'll make my jet lag worse. i tried to call home....it didn't work. so they took me on the grand tour of nantes but the whole time i was dead tired and worried that my parents were worried sick about me. i'll have to do the grand tour of nantes another day when i'm not thinking when can i sleep and are my parents freaking out right now. we got home and i tried connecting to the wifi to text them, of course it didnt work for me. but then they got a call and it was my parents! wahoo! they told me they weren't too worried they figured i hadn't been able to get wifi and i'd been busy. so i was worried about them being worried more than they were in real life. -_-
monday sept 1-first official day! kinda? the boys didnt start school until tuesday so bertrand took us around and showed me some more of nantes. we went to this pizzeria to eat and omg best pizza ever. the french really love their cheese though and some of it is just too much or sour so that'll take some getting used to. we explored a little town and it was really cute and so many bright colored houses. i loved it. I still had major jet lag so when we were driving they were telling me all about things and i'm just sitting their falling asleep trying to make sure i say oh cool or yeah at the right times. the tiredness/jet lag was real.
Tuesday-this was the first day of school for the kids and it went so easy. Got them up and ready and took them. the school is like five minutes away. so easy. then i had the day to get myself sorted and the rest of the week was like this, except wednesday, they didn't have school. but i take them to school, on tuesdays and thursdays they come home for lunch so i make a lunch for them and we play then back to school they go. so i have the day to myself to go explore nantes, take a nap, clean my room, go shopping, whatever i want. it's wonderful. Then they come home and we go to the bakery and i trust them to get the right bread, one day i told them what bread we needed to get for sandwiches and they got bread with chocolate chips -_- i really need to learn french.
We're starting to get into a routine and it's nice and I'm finding what works with them and what doesn't. They have a problem with getting distracted when I ask them to do something they go to do it then find a book and read instead. So it's not like they're blatantly disobeying they just forget. so I've started to make lists for them when they have things to do in the mornings and evenings so i'm not constantly reminding them and so far it's working really well! They're really good and they're brothers so they fight, but they're nice. the only problem is they speak in french to each other and i don't understand so i'm playing with them thinking everything is ok then they're hitting each other and i don't know what went wrong to fix it. so it's a work in progress.
But yeah. first week, DONE. holla for a dolla.
here's some more pictures because nantes is beautiful.
on the tram to the city center i pass a castle.
it's beyond crazy to me that this is a normal sight to see.
